Indie Day 4 - So Gravity is a Thing (Yaaay Physics)

so now i'm starting to work with a platformer-type game and to make a functional platformer one thing is very important, gravity, the ability to go down after once going up.

look at him, up there just floating.
BUT WAIT, look,

not only did he gently float down, but he also had something to land on, boom! collisions.

(the avatar guy also has sprite animations)

(because i'm awesome.)

and after messing round a bit with sprites and drag and drop coding, i can make this sorta animated guy, sort of jump around. (the animation is still a bit off and needs betting integration with the code, and speaking of the code sometimes i just get stuck on walls. both of those issues can and will be fixed.

*update*

i fixed the wall sticking, a bit at least, a lot at most, but there's not much of a way to prove it, so just take my word for it.

Indie Day 3 - The Death of Grammar and the Beggining of Something New

so i’ve decided to stop caring about capitalizing the beginning of each sentence and ‘i’ so i can just write down what i’ve been working without worrying about stuff like if a letter is typed right or not.

i also made smiley faces that move when you press buttons on the keyboard, and stop moving when you stop pressing the buttons, it’s great.

look at that

look at that little guy, who also moves.

Indie Day ? - Special Home edition 1

I feel like I've been hit on the head by a brick of inspiration.

Sometimes in things like flash games there's like a wrecking ball-type tool-ish thing, and so my thought is what if i can make the main combat mechanic of the game be a knife that follows where the cursor is, but the only part that's static on it is the center of the pommel, making the knife be able to just swing around in circles all over the screen. i think it would be simple enough to also code it so that only the blade damages enemies and the handle would not. I could also make it so that when an enemy is struck by the blade they get about, 30 frames of invincibility, and if the game is running at 60 fps then that would just be half a second, but if an enemy was hit by the handle they could get a full 60 frames, or 90, or whatever,  but would also be knocked back. i think that would give uses to striking with the handle OR blade. It could be complicated but it also sounds like an interesting mechanic that i haven't seen done yet, so it could be worth the time.

The second part of that would be, how do I make the knife, not swing around? Well i figure if you were to just click the left mouse button then the knife would stay in whatever position it is when you clicked it, and would go back to swinging when you released it.

Now I'm thinking, what if it wasn't just a knife? What if this sort of thing could be done with any weapon? any object in the world? I think that would open a lot of puzzel-solving mechanics.

Will expand on this idea on a later date.

Indie Day 2 - Idea Day

So, I have access to a game making program, and i have have tutorials on how to make a platformer, so I might as well make a platformer in the game making program. I'm doing rocket science over here.

My first goal for the platformer is to have 1 level, a main menu, and acceptable platforming controls.

If things go better, faster then expected, then I will try for character animations and the ability to save your game, however that may just be goal 2, we'll see.

However, today I will be working through this tutorial, just to see were I can get.

*UPDATE*

I made a scrolling screen. Be proud of me.

Indie Day 1 - Game Maker Studio

I'm Starting Gamer Maker Studio.

I have this program at home because I previously tried to get into coding, which I failed to do sadly.
However, this time around I plan on completing most of the tutorials, at least all of the beginner ones, as well as the Game Maker basics. I also plan on collaborating with David at least occasionally, since we were both high-grading students in last year's infotech course, we should be able to make something amazing.

I've found two tutorials on youtube about game maker, one for the basics, and one for a platformer game, which could be the type of game i want to work with.

Stay tuned for future, daily updates.

I got a temple
